Dr. Karanvir S. Aulakh is a board-certified veterinary surgeon with a distinguished career in clinical excellence, education, and research. His professional journey has been dedicated to advancing the field of veterinary surgical specialties while mentoring the next generation of veterinary professionals.
Dr. Aulakh earned his BVSc & AH (Bachelor of Veterinary Science and Animal Husbandry) from Punjab Agricultural University, Ludhiana, Punjab, India. He pursued advanced training in basic science research in microbiology and tumor immunology, completing an MS in Microbiology and Immunology from the University of Louisville School of Medicine, KY. He subsequently completed the ECFVG certification program at Louisiana State University, receiving his professional certification through the American Veterinary Medical Association (AVMA).
Following this, Dr. Aulakh completed a rotating internship, a surgical internship, and a small animal surgery residency at the Virginia-Maryland Regional College of Veterinary Medicine, Blacksburg, VA. During his residency, he also earned a second MS in Biomedical and Veterinary Sciences from Virginia Tech University. He went on to achieve board certification with the American College of Veterinary Surgeons (ACVS).
Dr. Aulakh served as a Tenured Associate Professor in the Department of Veterinary Clinical Sciences at Louisiana State University School of Veterinary Medicine (LSU SVM), where he was also Chief of the Small Animal Surgery Service and Director of the ACVS-Approved Small Animal Surgery Residency Program for eight years. In these leadership roles, he was instrumental in advancing surgical education and fostering multi-institutional research collaborations with Virginia Tech, University of Missouri, Texas A&M University, Gulf Coast Veterinary Specialists (Houston), and industry partners such as Exubrion Therapeutics (Buford, GA).
His collaborative research has focused on developing innovative treatments for orthopedic conditions in small animals, particularly elbow osteoarthritis.
